The flag of the United States
is a symbol of unity, with a very interesting history.
Although it's instantly recognized around the world, it's not always welcomed.
To patriots, though, it stirs up great passion.
It represents freedom and the opportunity to live in liberty, and reminds us all
of the great sacrifice in human life that has been paid for that privilege.

To those who object to a dog being on an American flag.
I'm sorry if you don't like that picture of
a dog on a flag, but I don't remove photos from my sites
just because people don't like them. Very few people complain about that
anyway.
In my view a flag is not a holy object. It's a symbol for something that's
not always righteous.
Our country is great, but it's not perfect and sometimes our country does
very nasty things,
so I don't consider our country sacred in the way that life and God are
always sacred.
Freedom is sacred, but our country sometimes does things that restrict or
deny freedom to innocent people.
Some of our leaders are horrible, cruel, greedy, and arrogant. So, our
country is not always worthy of honor.
Dogs are wonderful beings, and are far more honorable than many people.
The point of my photo of the English Springer spaniel on the flag is to show
a very sincere and loyal dog with honest eyes, mourning the loss of his
master, symbolized by the flag.
It implies a question about the value of war and the loss of innocent,
young life.
That dog was our dog, who was the sweetest and most loyal dog I've ever
known.
His presence on the flag honors the flag instead of desecrates it.
Toby died suddenly of a paralyzing stroke.
That photo of him is a wonderful image that in my view deserves to be on a
US postage stamp.
I'll never remove it from my site.
